We would like to invite you to this unique retreat!
Jouko will teach about horta and other traditions (living closely with nature), and Kata, the co-educator will open the famous Cretan diet, why it is so healthy, using researched Functional Medicine principles to give a scientific insight to it - and horta eating.
Meet the tour leaders
Jouko Kivimetsä
The professional instructor of the program is Jouko Kivimetsä from Finland, who is an international expert in the education of edible wild plants and has vast experience in Cretan diet and the holistic lifestyle based on ancient traditions, similar to the teachings of Functional Medicine.
He is the co-author of the Finnish edible wild plant guidebook, the main organizer of the international study tours and events of the topic, and an international instructor of edible wild plant knowledge.
He is the founder of the Finnish National Association of Edible Wild Plants, as well as the developer and instructor of the Brain Relief® holistic health promotion and stress management program.
Katalin Kokavecz
The Functional Medicine Expert on this tour is The Hungarian MED Center head, Ms Katalin N. Kokavecz. She is one of the few internationally certificated Functional Medicine educators and specialised in understanding the unique qualities of wild plants as superfoods and preventative ailments.
What is it about?
5 days full of program in Cretan spring, living the lifestyle we teach in practise, learning more straigth from the carriers of this ancient wildly natural food tradition, within the world’s healthiest (and very FM!) Cretan kitchen.

An abundance of healthy and delicious food
5 meals, each with about 10 different traditional, delicious dishes in a long one ”family table” (local wines included). During the meals, principles of the traditional Cretan diet are opened up also from the point of view of Functional Medicine.
Horta tours
Visits to several Cretan mountain villages to learn about their life and living with wild plants, seasonal foods, natural ways of growing and cooking delicious food. Participants normally experience the positive effects of this food in their bodies already during the program week.
Trekkings
Several easy trekking walks on the horta plains where also wild tulips and orchichs normally grow at that very time (the timing differs different years)
Mindfulness
Stopping at holy places to have short meditations of gratitude to the beauty and abundance of Nature
Island of Crete
While riding of the small bus (only for 17 people) you hear of the magnificicent Minoan history of the island (when European culture was born) and other phases under Helenic, Roman, Venetian and Turkish rule. Of the present day life in Crete and their yearly calendar in harmony with nature.
Horta farm
Visit to a farm specialised in wild plants and they have the largest shop in Crete for these wild plant products (teas, spices, soaps, extracts, cremes, raki)
Free time programs
Time for your own experiences in the Spili village where your hotel is can also be arranged before or after the 5 day program.

ARRIVE TO CRETE ON YOUR OWN
This 5-day trip is international in scope, so you will need to make your own travel arrangements to the program location, which is not included in the cost of the program.
You can get to Spili with flights to Heraklion and Hania. Transportation from these airports can be arranged with other group members. Especially direct flight (9.25-12.15) from Vianna on the 22nd of April, Saturday is advisable and inexpensive. The same flight returns 29th in the afternoon.
